10 Hot Actresses Who Married Sexy, Less Famous Men

When two famous people marry it garners a lot of attention, but those marriages seem to fail more often than non-Hollywood marriages. But when a famous person has a spouse who’s equally attractive, intelligent but not as famous of a face, those marriages seems to last longer. This isn’t a “famous people married ordinary people” list—the men (and one woman) on this list are all accomplished in their own careers (many are successful behind-the-scenes folks), but their wives are even more accomplished (four Oscar winners and one Oscar nominee). The fact that the husbands aren’t competing with their wives for Hollywood glory strengthens instead of diminishes the marriages (no jealously, here). It really does take a person to watch their spouse commandeer the spotlight. Some of the men on the list left their ordinary wives for star-studded women, which is up for debate whether those were terrible home-wrecking situations or just the power of love taking over. Instead of a trophy wife, we now have trophy husbands. And if you add in gay men and their spouses, you can also include Neil Patrick Harris’ hubbie David Burtka, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s spouse, Justin Mikita. Prepare yourself to drink in these tall glasses of water.

10. Natalie Portman

Paris Fashion Dior
On the set of Black Swan, Oscar winner Natalie Portman met the dark-haired, blue-eyed and sometimes bearded French ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied, who choreographed a lot of the movie’s dance sequences. Millepied had a girlfriend at the time but naturally left her for Portman. The couple had a son in 2011 and married in 2012. Millepied was a principal dancer at the NYC ballet but recently got appointed as Director of Dance at the Paris Opera Ballet. The couple support each other’s careers: He attended her award season events, and she moved to Paris for him.

9. Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale,Len Wiseman
Kate Beckinsale dated fellow Brit and Masters of Sex star Michael Sheen, for almost ten years until she met American director Len Wiseman, in 2002. He cast both her and then-boyfriend Sheen in 2003’sUnderworld film, but during filming, Wiseman and Beckinsale fell in love. Sheen’s a decent looking guy but doesn’t have the smoldering good looks of Wiseman. The situation got sticky because both Beckinsale and Wiseman were with other people, but it was Wiseman who was married. After divorcing his wife, Wiseman married Beckinsale in 2004. Things eventually worked out for all three of them, and the men and Beckinsale get along so great that they occasionally attend events together. Wiseman most recently directed Beckinsale in 2012’s Total Recall remake.

8. Keira Knightley

An Oscar-nominee this year, Keira Knightley attended the Oscars with her newlywed husband, musician James Righton. He accompanied the pregnant star to her myriad award show gatherings. “He gets to wear lots of nice suits,” she told Ellen about awards season. “He’s enjoying that.” His piercing blue eyes were a bit distracting from Knightley’s haute couture and baby bump. Righton’s the keyboardist for the popular British electro-pop group Klaxons, and the couple married in 2013. Knightly formerly dated Jamie Dornan, but she made a good choice with lower-key Righton.

7. Wanda Sykes

This list isn’t just comprised of women who married men. Actress/comedian Wanda Sykes came out in 2008 (she once was married to a man) and announced she was married to a woman, whom she started dating in 2006. The couple also announced they had twins. Since coming out, Sykes has been mum on what her attractive wife’s last name is (her first name is Alex and she’s French) or what her occupation is, though Sykes mentioned Alex is not in the entertainment industry. Skyes and her wife have been strong supporters of marriage equality and attend rallies, fighting for the cause.

6. Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore, Bart Freundlich
During Julianne Moore’s Oscar-winning speech this year, she thanked her nine-year older, tall, dark, bearded partner of almost 20 years, Bart Freundlich. “I read an article that said that winning an Oscar could lead to living five years longer. If that’s true, I’d really like to thank the Academy because my husband is younger than me.” The couple met on the set of the 1997-released film The Myth of Fingerprints, which Freundlich directed. They had two kids but didn’t get married until 2003. “I’ve known her for 20 years, been married to her for 11, had kids with her for 17, directed her 3 times. We have two dogs,” he told US Weekly. “I’ve been with her through numerous sunburns, four Oscar ceremonies–five to come.” Hopefully there will be no Oscar curse for the couple.

5. Reese Witherspoon

=The Oscar winner married hottie Ryan Phillippe, but moved onto somebody different in Creative Artists Agency agent Jim Toth. Witherspoon met him at a party in 2010. “This really drunk guy was hitting on me, making such an idiot of himself, yelling at me,” she told Elle. “Jim came over and said, ‘Please excuse my friend. He’s just broken up with someone.'” Soon after, the couple started dating and got married in 2011. Apparently he’s not only good for red carpets but he’s also a good dad. “He changes diapers, makes carpool runs and always has time to give me a much needed pep talk,” she said.

4. Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen and her software developer hubbie–who writes computer codes–have disparate careers, which is why their 10+year marriage is still going strong. “I’m a very anxious person,” Bowen told Parade. “I’m constantly looking for the hole in the doughnut. My husband, Scott, doesn’t even know the doughnut has a hole—no one told him. He’s the perfect counterbalance. He has a calming effect on me, and he’s fun.” One of Bowen’s cousins set them up, their first day was during a blizzard in 2003 and a few months later, she and Scott Phillips married. They have three kids, including twins.

3. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore is no stranger to dating high-profile men such as Luke Wilson, Fab Moretti and Justin Long, and then marrying Tom Green, and subsequently divorcing him. But Barrymore met her Mr. Right, art consultant husband, Will Kopelman in 2011, finally finding happiness with an attractive non-Hollywood type—though, he does sell art to famous people. The couple married in 2012, and they now have two daughters together. Kopelman, whose father was the CEO of Chanel, exudes boyish good looks and surely makes for some nice arm candy.

2. Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts, Danny Moder
Julia Roberts dated a lot of attractive Hollywood hunks before she landed cameraman/ cinematographer (and Kevin Bacon look-alike) Danny Moder. The couple met on the set of the 2002-released movie The Mexican, which she starred alongside Brad Pitt. When they worked together, Roberts had just broken things off with Benjamin Bratt, but Moder was married to his first wife, Vera. About a year after filming wrapped, he filed for divorce and the couple married on July 4, 2002. Some people say Roberts was a home-wrecker, and others felt Moder was beneath her. “There were also remarks about Danny being a cameraman, implying that he was not good enough for me,” Roberts told Express UK, “but our jobs were not married to each other.” The couple has been happily married for 12 years and have three kids, and last year Moder and Roberts received Emmy nominations for their work on The Normal Heart—he for cinematography and she for acting. And let’s be honest: Moder’s much more attractive than Roberts’ first hubbie, Lyle Lovett.

1. Julianna Margulies

The Good Wife actress plays a TV lawyer, but in real life she’s also married to one. The actress told Ellen she met Keith Lieberthal at a dinner party that she almost didn’t attend. “I feel bad because people objectify him and they’re like, ‘Oh, your husband is so hot,’” Margulies said. “The truth is, he is unbelievably bright and smart and went to Harvard Law.” When she met him, she asked him if he was an actor or a model, and joked if he looked like he was 12 years old. He’s only six years younger than Margulies but does look much younger. Margulies is a stunner, too, but her husband is the one that turns heads on the red carpet. Thankfully, the pair has a son to keep the good genes going
